Why I built CVBetter

I spent about ten years as a carer. When that chapter ended I found a job, and then I was made redundant. So I went back to the job market, and it had quietly changed while I was away.

What had changed

It no longer felt like being the best candidate. Not until the interview, anyway. Before that, you are a document being scored by software you cannot see, measured against a job advert that was very possibly written by AI in the first place. Getting to the interview had become its own separate skill, and nobody had taught it to me.

The loop that wore me down

Here is what applying actually looked like, over and over again:

Somewhere in that grind, the good things you have actually done get lost. The project you turned around. The people you looked after. The problem only you managed to solve. You are too tired and too rushed to remember them, let alone put the right ones in front of the right employer.

So I started building

I am not someone who waits well. So I did what I could do: I set up apps and websites, and I built an agentic AI system that could search for roles and help me apply to them. I started taking on work through Upwork to keep learning and keep the lights on. CVBetter is the piece of all of that which turned out to matter the most.

What CVBetter is actually for

It is not here to invent a shinier version of you. It is here to help you remember the real one, and to stop the trudgery from burying it. You bring your genuine experience. The tool helps you find the parts that fit each job and put them in language that both the software and the human on the other side will understand.

That is also why there is no card to enter and nothing charged during the beta. A lot of CV tools make their money the moment you look away. This one does not. The honesty is not a marketing angle bolted on afterwards, it is the whole reason the tool exists.

Why I keep going

Mostly, to give people a bit of hope. If you are in the loop right now, sending things off and quietly hating yourself for it, I have been exactly where you are. You are not a bad candidate. You are usually a good one stuck with a bad process. CVBetter is my attempt to fix the process.

I cannot promise that using this site will get you a job. My hope is that, like it did for me, it helps you unearth a few things that had been buried, things that turn out to be genuinely relevant to the kind of work you actually want. And if nothing else, I hope it gives you a little hope during some dark times.
